I think the current tendency to view MAGA reps like Boebert, MTG, Gaetz, etc as targets for mockery rather than as serious opponents is a continuation of Hatfield’s attitude. It’s hard to take folks like that seriously, but when they have corrupted the Extreme Court, it’s past time to do so.
Agreed. I think there's a difference between mockery intended to dismiss someone as irrelevant and unimportant vs. mockery that's intended to expose the toxic absurdity of someone's politics. Ultimately though, mockery is no substitute for political organization and mobilization...though it can sometimes be a means to that end.
